Five Reasons to Visit East Yorkshire This Autumn

Sarah Dean • November 3, 2026

Crisp countryside walks, quieter beaches, cosy country pubs and beautiful autumn colours – discover why autumn is one of the best times to enjoy a stay at Pasture House Holiday Cottages.

As summer draws to a close, East Yorkshire takes on a whole new charm. The landscapes become rich with autumn colours, the pace of life slows down and the cooler days make it the perfect season to get outdoors and explore.

Whether you're looking for a relaxing weekend away, a family break or an excuse to spend quality time with friends, autumn offers a wonderful opportunity to experience everything East Yorkshire has to offer.

Here are five reasons why we think autumn is one of the very best times to visit.

1. Beautiful Countryside in Autumn Colours

Autumn transforms the East Yorkshire countryside into a patchwork of golds, oranges and deep reds, making it one of the most picturesque times of year to visit.

The rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds are particularly beautiful during autumn, offering peaceful walking routes, scenic drives and breathtaking viewpoints.

Whether you're heading out for a leisurely stroll or a full day's walk, you'll be rewarded with crisp air, stunning scenery and a real sense of tranquillity.

If you're looking for inspiration, we've included some of our favourite nearby walking routes in the welcome pack, all just a short drive from the cottages.

2. Quieter Beaches to Enjoy

One of the biggest advantages of an autumn break is having the coastline almost to yourself.

Fraisthorpe Beach is a wonderful place to visit at this time of year. Wrap up warm, enjoy a long walk along the shoreline and breathe in the fresh sea air before warming up with a coffee and cake at the nearby Cow Shed Café.

If you're looking for a traditional seaside town, Bridlington is equally enjoyable during autumn, with quieter promenades, independent shops and cosy cafés to explore.

3. Cosy Country Pubs and Delicious Local Food

After a day exploring, there's nothing better than sitting down to a hearty meal in a traditional Yorkshire pub.

The Yorkshire Wolds is home to some wonderful country pubs, including the Wolds Inn at Huggate, where you can enjoy delicious food in a welcoming atmosphere after a countryside walk.

If you'd rather stay in, why not visit one of the fantastic local farm shops before returning to the cottage? Pick up fresh local produce, cook together in the fully equipped kitchen, or enjoy homemade pizzas using our wood-fired pizza oven.

Autumn is the perfect season for relaxed evenings filled with good food and great company.

4. Explore Beverley at a Slower Pace

The historic market town of Beverley is particularly charming during autumn.

Take time to browse the independent shops, admire the stunning Beverley Minster, enjoy a leisurely lunch or simply wander through the Georgian streets.

With fewer visitors than during the peak summer months, you'll have the opportunity to explore at a relaxed pace and discover why Beverley is consistently regarded as one of Yorkshire's most beautiful market towns.

5. Return to Luxury After a Day Exploring

One of the best parts of an autumn getaway is returning to somewhere warm and welcoming after a day spent exploring East Yorkshire.

After breathing in the fresh countryside air or enjoying a stroll along the coast, head back to Pasture House Holiday Cottages to unwind in comfort. Soak in the hot tub beneath the stars, gather around the dining table for a home-cooked meal or enjoy an evening making pizzas in the wood-fired pizza oven.

As the evenings draw in and the temperatures begin to drop, there's nothing quite like lighting the log burner, curling up with a blanket and your favourite drink, and spending quality time with family and friends. Whether you're chatting late into the evening, playing board games or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings, it's the perfect way to end an autumn day.

Sometimes, it's these simple moments of slowing down and spending time together that become the most treasured memories of a holiday.

Why Autumn is the Perfect Time for a Group Getaway

Autumn is an ideal season for bringing family and friends together.

With the busy summer holidays behind us and the festive season still to come, it's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or simply enjoy quality time with loved ones.
